Magneto invites us to discover the basic principles of magnets

The exhibition 'Marvel Superheroes' of the Science Museum (CAC / Valencia) always surprises us: In the area dedicated to Magneto, the public can observe some basic principles of magnets.

At home we know Magneto well because we are followers of the X Men, in addition my son makes good crumbs with everyone who likes Marvel heroes in general. This character is a mutant with the superhuman power to shape and manipulate magnetic fields. If we visit the exhibition, we will remember that there is always a North pole and a South pole in a magnet, also that if a magnet is broken in half it still has two poles. Do your children already know that equal poles repel and opposites attract?

In a very practical and entertaining way we can learn that the attraction or repulsion is stronger the closer the magnets are or that the strength of the magnet varies at the different points of the magnet and that the greatest force is at the poles.

And if you tell your children all these things about magnets, don't forget to mention that on November 22, 1904, Louis Néel was born, author of important discoveries related to magnetism and that he was awarded in 1970 with the Nobel Prize in Physics.

The “Marvel Superheroes” exhibition at the Science Museum invites visitors to immerse themselves in the world of comics and discover how superheroes incorporate science into their adventures

It is evident that magneto exhibits powers with much exaggeration of the control over the magnetism we all have. But on an insignificant human level, we can also control magnetic fields.

Surely it is a good idea to spend a day in the City of Arts and Sciences of Valencia, to have the opportunity to discover this and other wonders of science.
