Analysis of the new Bugaboo Fox: design, lightness and versatility

I wanted to thoroughly test the new Bugaboo Fox. It is a brand that we were valuing at home when buying ours - in the end we opted for something cheaper - but I was left wanting to try it beyond messing with them in the store or pushing that of a friend.

So, on the occasion of the launch, I had the opportunity to thoroughly analyze a test unit during the last three weeks.

A design that falls in love with its simplicity

With baby strollers it happens as with large cars. The external aspect is not something that should matter so much to us compared to other features more strictly linked to functionality, but the reality is that it is something that does weigh when deciding on one or the other model, and the Bugaboo Fox stands out for a design that falls in love with its simplicity.

If we compare it with other strollers, you can appreciate the simplicity and elegance of the design, as well as the smaller number of parts and elements

You could draw this stroller with a few lines, and that conveys elegance and visual lightness, but it also has other positive implications, such as fewer parts and items that can be damaged and also a lower capacity basket (10 liters).

To this taste for minimalist design joins a wise choice of the color palette (In my case, gray and white is a winning combination with a retro touch) and the use of noble materials in some details, such as wood on the wheels or leather on the handlebars, although in my opinion this is somewhat expendable.

Lightness and agility for more comfortable handling

Leaving the design aside, Another notable aspect of the new Bugaboo Fox is its lightness. The weight of the set of the chassis with the chair does not reach 10 kilos, two kilos less than what weighs mine.

That is something that is especially noticeable when you have to go up and down the stairs or load it in the car, but also during the march. This is a stroller that stands out for its agility, being able to turn on itself at any time, ideal for wandering and maneuvering in narrow landings and impossible elevators.

Versatility to adapt to each situation

One of the things that attracted me most to Bugaboo from the beginning is the importance they give to versatility in your designs, and the Bugaboo Fox was not going to be less. Although, since our baby is still only three months old, we have basically used the carrycot, the chair has three inclinations and can be placed back and forth, offering a total of six different positions.

If we add the different positions of the hood, or the additional accessory for the rain - which is super fast to place and also folds on itself in a comfortable bag - it also folds on itself It is easy to find the combination that best suits each situation.

Of course, here I would like to make a subsection on two aspects that did not convince me at all. On the one hand, the mechanism of the hood did not work as smoothly as one would expect: sometimes it remained as if it were hooked and it was necessary to make more force than expected. On the other hand, although the hood in that broken white is beautiful, I would not recommend it for places with a lot of sun, because it lets in too much light and, at least to our baby, it has not excited him.

A compact folding, but improvable

We now reach a point that I think many consider crucial: folding. Here the Bugaboo Fox offers a lime and a sand, as it offers an extremely compact fold (66x54x19cm disassembled, 46x60x88cm folded in one piece) that allows you to carry it in the trunk of the car comfortably -even the carrycot folds up to be flat-, but in return the process is less intuitive and fast than in other strollers.

Yes, I would like to highlight that I love it the system by which the chair or carrycot fits into the chassis; Firm, fast and easy to put on and take off. However, in the rest of the process, the parts and mechanisms involved have not given me the same sense of quality. But above all, the folding is not very intuitive, after two weeks of use and dozens of folding, I still had to concentrate on doing so.

A suspension too rigid

Bugaboo describes his new Fox as "the smoothest and most stable ride, whatever the surface" thanks to its "advanced suspension system on all wheels", but my feeling is that the suspension is too rigid.

It is something that is perceived on certain surfaces or with some small potholes, nor do you think it is that it agitates the baby like in a cocktail shaker. You just notice the vibration more or the blow that in other strollers that I have tried or in which I normally use.

Very careful details

Another aspect that I would like to highlight from Bugaboo Fox is taking care of the details of all the pieces. Small nonsense that is appreciated in the day to day or that results in a more rounded design, although in some specific case it is not always comfortable.

For example, the zipper of the fabric that covers the carrycot is hidden from view, which is very nice, but makes it more uncomfortable to use. I also love the way the handlebar extends, elegant and simple, although always diagonally, that implies that you cannot hang any bag or those hooks to carry shopping bags. It is true that Bugaboo offers its own, with an exquisitely designed hitch system, but they are small tolls that have to be paid for an elegant design in its simplicity.

Bugaboo Fox price and availability

The Bugaboo Fox is available in Spain from March 1, 2018 From 1,149 euros, a price that places you in the high range within the different Bugaboo models, and in accordance with the design and finishes it presents. Obviously, there are other cheaper options in the market whose functionality will be paired with the Bugaboo Fox and even that stand out above this in certain aspects, but with a not so careful design.
