The names of favorite babies by the Spaniards

This data suits me very well, since I am looking for a name for my second daughter. I imagine that my partner Elda will also be interested when choosing her baby's name.

As every year, the National Statistics Institute has just announced the most frequent names of newborns during 2005.

The names preferred by the Spanish parents were Alejandro and Lucia followed by Daniel and Pablo for the boys and Maria and Paula for the girls.

According to the data, a fifth of the children born last year bear some of the ten most frequent names, which show that Spaniards are still very classic in their choice.

This is the nationwide list of the ten favorite names of boys and ten of girls.

Children: Alejandro, Daniel, Pablo, David, Adrián, Javier, Alvaro, Sergio, Carlos and Marcos. Girls: Lucia, María, Paula, Laura, Marta, Alba, Claudia, Carla, Andrea and Sara. The data of the most top names in each autonomous community are also collected.

For example, in Catalonia, Marc, Alex, Pau and Pol are the most common for boys, while the list of girl names is headed by Paula, Carla and Laia.

On the other hand, in the Basque Country the ten most common names for children were Basque. The most common were Iker, Unai and Ander for boys and Irati, Ane and Naroa for girls, although Lucia and Paula are also among the top ten.

In Ceuta and Melilla, the most frequent names for both sexes are Arabic. Mohamed, Adam, Hamza for boys and Salma and Mariem for girls.

The communities where Castilian is spoken as the only official language and the Valencian Community also coincide in the most popular names nationwide.
