Abandoned babies, Emergency Families

The Director General of Children and Family, Carmen Belinchón, states that abandonment of babies has increased tremendously, especially in young couples, mothers between 16 and 18, once they give birth leave their babies in the hospital.

There are also many cases of abandonment between couples, single mothers and even single parents with ages ranging from 20 to 30 years. The reasons are usually conflicting relationships or transgenerational abuse (they were abused children and now they are abusive parents). It is estimated that every month there are six cases of abandonment in Seville and Cádiz, so overall it is estimated that the figures should be higher.

Despite the sexual information campaigns that occur in our country, teenage pregnancies do not stop. It must be said that a good percentage of mothers who abandon their babies are foreigners. The Ministry of Equality of the Junta de Andalucía has launched the program Emergency Families, with this they try to avoid that the children have to be admitted in a center of the Meeting, but that they can live the heat of a home. These voluntary families welcome children temporarily (about three months), both those who have been abandoned and those who have withdrawn custody.

At the moment there are 16 solidarity homes distributed between Seville and Cádiz, these families are available through the mobile 24 hours a day to be able to take care of a baby at any time. It really is an admirable altruistic work.

Currently in Andalusian shelters there are more than 2,000 children waiting to be welcomed as a family, yesterday a campaign with the motto "Look at me" was launched. They are not children who must be adopted, they are minors who have had to be cautiously removed from their biological parents, but who will return with them after a while. Meanwhile, if children are welcomed by families, they can live in an optimal environment that will benefit them greatly.

This host project will be extended to the rest of the region, if you want to participate, you can contact through 902 102 227.
