Alternatives to fish to take Omega-3

At present it seems clear that Omega-3 is an essential fatty acid for a complete development and functioning of the brain human, so it is insisted that the pregnant woman's diet must be rich in this nutrient. This will bring the benefits to the baby in the last stage of pregnancy and also through breastfeeding during its growth.

I personally like blue fish, and, while limiting its intake during pregnancy, I had no problem eating it occasionally. However, there are people who for various reasons do not want or cannot eat fish. For these cases there are alternatives.

One of them are dairy preparations (they cannot be called "milk") enriched in omega-3. Fish oil is added to these, and in particular they have an extremely unpleasant taste. The contents of the only cardboard I bought went by the sink right away. I could not find anyone who liked not to waste it.

There are other options that may be more attractive and safe than more natural. The flax seeds (which also help prevent constipation), hemp seeds (also rich in vitamin E and copper) and pumpkin seeds or pipes.

These options attract me much more than other alternatives, such as dietary supplements in the form of fish oil capsules.

There are also other foods that provide omega-3 fatty acid. In the market there are some fortified cookies and cereals with this acid, based on extract of fish oils or any of the products that I have mentioned (flax or walnut). The flavor of these cookies and cereals is not significantly altered, and if we add flax or nut to breakfast, what we do is provide more variety to the muesli.

There's also eggs with omega-3 supplements, although I have not tried them. These have seen their amount of fatty acids increased by changes in the feeding of the hens: the feed is mixed with fish oil, seaweed (a chicken eating sea products?) Or flax.

Anyway, remember that for a balanced diet you have to consume varied foods. We cannot spend our days eating nuts without measure.
