The maternal leave of the Minister of Defense

Since a woman, and even pregnant, has assumed a ministerial position, and on top of Defense, criticism has not stopped. And of course they do not stop now that the lady has been a mother and will afford to take maternity leave, as some say.

I think that even if you are a minister or sweeper you have the same right to take the 16 weeks of maternity leave that correspond after childbirth, like any worker. And what about his great responsibility at the head of the ministry? They have already solved it by putting another person in charge, obviously a measure that was thought before the minister assumed with a gut of 7 months.

When a woman gives birth, hardworking or not, her main priority becomes her baby. There is no charge, however ministerial, more important than caring for a child.

In addition, Carme Chacón has said that she will share with her husband the leave, which is an example and may encourage many men to apply for the 15-day paternity leave to which they are entitled.

Since his appointment in charge of the portfolio, an image of equality has been promoted (although there are signs like the Civil Registry of Madrid). What the minister does is assumed as an example, so I think we should take the matter more naturally and stop being scandalized because a minister was a mother. With the debate we do nothing but treat as exceptional something that is not. It should be a daily matter in all jobs, without fear of what they will say let alone layoffs.

I hope that the case of the minister will serve as an example for many women and especially for businessmen, since there are many women workers who are forced to leave their positions when they become mothers.

At the moment, he is doing good handwriting. We will see if it also brings out a notable in breastfeeding and in work and family conciliation, or if instead it touches in its own flesh the painful duality that thousands of women who are forced to choose between children or career live.
