Space to grow: La Serrada

The La Serrada Association It emerged in 2006 with a double objective. On the one hand, give legal and operational coverage to the activities of the group of fathers and mothers determined to launch an alternative education project that arose as a result of the First Education and Parenting Days.

On the other hand, promote informative actions and of social sensitization that allow a greater knowledge of the different bases of the project and that could be combined in one: focus the upbringing and education to achieve the best holistic development of the child.

He "Espai per a Créixer" offers children a respectful environment in which they can develop at your own pace. A relaxed and safe environment where they can feel at ease, express themselves freely, explore, experiment and face limits.

They can also come into contact with other children of different ages. It is thought of as a place where they can learn to live together, listen, express themselves, give their opinions and decide. Can touch nature. Live in it.

It is intended to be the children themselves those who decide how, when and what they want to learn and that the fundamental objective of the educational process is to achieve integral development of children in the emotional, psychomotor, intellectual, social and artistic fields. The principles on which they are based are respect, self-regulation and participatory democracy.

He respect It is the basis of the operation of space. They start from respecting each creature, its individuality, its development process, its needs and desires as the basis of being and being. From this respect and confidence in the ability of each creature and its maturation process, the self-regulation.

In a safe and adapted environment for creatures, the process of self-regulation It facilitates the natural and balanced expansion of each living being. In this way, natural curiosity is reaffirmed as the motor of learning for each person.

The coexistence between creatures of different ages and with the companions makes it necessary also to establish rules and limits. The participatory democracy through the assembly, ensures that each child can express themselves, take initiatives, resolve conflicts, learn to listen and take into account other opinions and make decisions. And in this way, it also endorses the responsibility of caring for the environment.

I feel very interested in this type of projects and the philosophy of La Serrada seems excellent to me. Hopefully in schools it was possible to adapt at least part of these premises. I'm sure our children would be happier and would learn better and with greater pleasure.
