Eight babies born at the same time is the multiple birth with the largest number of people given birth than has been doumented.
It just happened in Belflower (California) where a woman has given birth by caesarean section to octillizos, six boys and two girls, at 30 weeks gestation. The babies weighed between 1,470 and 680 grams, quite small but we have known cases of babies of even less weight and less gestation time that have come forward.
The big surprise is that seven babies were expected, which is no small matter. For practicality, the 18 doctors who attended the birth named them with letters from A to G, but to everyone's amazement ... there was an H!
Parents do not want photos or videos of the babies taken nor has it been reported whether the conception has been natural or the result of any fertilization treatment, but all the hypotheses point to the latter.
For now, doctors are optimistic. The eight are perfectly well although two of them have needed assisted ventilation, however the next 72 hours are critical to know if everyone will survive.
It is the second case of small triplets in the United States, from the first birth, 10 years ago, seven children (5 girls and 2 boys) have survived, hopefully in this case the eight will succeed successfully and break the record.
