Single parents with two children will be considered large families

Finally, a proposal that has encountered various impediments and oppositions throughout its history comes forward. In Spain, single parents with two children will be considered as large families within one month from the entry into force of the General State Budget Act for 2011.

The extension of the concept of “large family”, therefore, comes despite the rejection of the Spanish Federation of Large Families, but with the joy of many people who are in this situation and who were discriminated against.

The Government accepts an initiative of the parliamentary group of ERC-IU-ICV that seeks to extend the concept of a large family not only to widows with two children, but also to single, separated or divorced mothers and fathers.

The purpose of this initiative is that these people can benefit from benefits of scholarships, grants or different grants granted by the Administration, something that I think is very fair.

Even so, the associations of single-parent families consider that there is still a long way to go when it comes to seeing their rights recognized. The resolution of tax differentiations or when adopting, in reproduction assistance ... are other claims of single parents.

At the moment, it is great and expected news that single parents with two dependent children are considered large families for the purposes of aid and available benefits, and hopefully it will be another step in achieving all the claimed rights.
