United States prohibits cribs with folding sides

This week, the government of U.S has announced that prohibits cribs with folding sides for being a risk for children, after the death of more than 30 babies in the last decade.

It has been voted unanimously to prevent the manufacture and sale of cribs with folding or mobile sides. They are cradles that incorporate a rail that allows to raise and lower the sides of the crib to be able to take the baby more easily or to attach the crib to the parents' bed.

Many cribs incorporate a piece (almost always plastic) that can be broken or improperly mounted allowing the rail to separate from the cradle and creating a hole through which the baby can drain, get caught and suffocate or strangle.

Millions of cribs had been removed from major brands such as Graco or Stork in recent years, so in the face of the successive alerts they have decided to cut their losses and directly prohibit cribs with this mechanism.

The truth is that there are many cribs that incorporate this system. In Europe it is not considered at the moment to prohibit them, but in the warnings of use it warns about the possible risks.

Just in case you have it at home it is very important to check the manufacturing quality, make sure that the locks are well fixed and after raising the side, always check that it is correctly immobilized.
