World No Tobacco Day: for a smokeless pregnancy and childhood

Today, May 31, the World No Tobacco Day, that is why from Babies and more we want to put our little grain of sand to raise awareness about the importance of a pregnancy and childhood without smoke.

Smoking in pregnancy is related, among other things, to congenital heart defects, strabismus, cleft lip, low birth weight, and even gestational diabetes and risk of abortion. This makes him one of the great enemies of the pregnant woman. Even so, it is a very difficult habit to quit, the proof is that 80 of the pregnant women do not quit tobacco.

But the effects of tobacco are not only limited to pregnancy, but in childhood it is also extremely harmful. Smoking affects half of the world's child population and in Spain we do little to avoid it, it is the country where more parents smoke in front of their children.

Children are very susceptible to tobacco smoke and even as passive smokers they receive toxic substances, making them more prone to infections and respiratory diseases such as asthma.

Tobacco is a very serious health issue. It is increasingly prohibited in more countries to smoke in public places, which is gradually being controlled. Anyway, I believe that even more awareness must be generated at the household level. Parents, even from pregnancy, should be aware of the damage they cause in their children because of smoking.
