Great news: Castilla y León will have its Mother's Milk Bank

In recent years, some milk banks have been launched such as Merida and the expansion of the milk bank of the Hospital 12 de Octubre in Madrid and we continue with another great news because we have known that Castilla y León will have its milk bank maternal that will begin to work on January 2015.

It will have a mixed character since it is born as a center dependent on the Ministry of Health and coordinated by the Pediatric Service of the Rio Hortega University Hospital of Valladolid and the Hemotherapy and Hemodonation Center of Castilla y León (Chemcyl).

The effects that breast milk has on the health of babies are undeniable, and thanks to human milk banks, premature babies with serious problems who, for whatever reason, cannot receive it from their mother, can benefit from that gold biological.

The one in Castilla y León will be the eighth mother's milk bank in Spain although more milk banks are needed to cover more territory and that all babies can access it.

The idea is to start collecting and distributing breast milk in January, which in principle will focus on the Valladolid health care area, to gradually extend it to the rest of the provinces. Both the promotion, as well as the recruitment of mothers and breastfeeding consultation will be done from the Hortega River, as well as the supervision of the biological treatment of milk and its final destination.
