Excursion to Salto de la Novia with children

Today we go hiking with the children to a very special corner inside the province of Castellón: The Jump of the Bride in Razors. Prepare to have a good time of sound nature and love legends.

We are located in a mountain area that we can reach by taking a pleasant walk from the town of Castellón, a landscape that hides many curiosities, starting with the name. Why the "Jump of the Bride"?

This suggestive name comes from a tradition that gave rise to the legend. The bride and groom of the area, before the wedding, made a demonstration of love jumping from one side to another of a strait of the Palancia river.

With such bad fortune, that one of the brides slipped on the rock and was swallowed by the waters. The boyfriend threw himself behind her and also disappeared. Do not forget to look for the sculpture dedicated to the bride and groom when you visit the urban center of Navajas.

The Salto de la Novia is the place where the lovers were supposed to jump and next to him, like a large bridal veil, falls the impressive waterfall of the Brazal, 60 meters high.

Tips for the excursion to the Salto de la Novia

The access to the Salto de la Novia is simple, it can be done on foot and with a baby carriage without problem, along a path wrapped in the landscape of the mountains that run along the Alto Palancia.

On either side of the road we will find interesting stops and viewpoints, bridges, fountains and caves between the cliffs, the rockery and the vegetation. As we approach the Cascada del Brazal, which falls next to the Salto de la Novia, the sound of the waters of the Palancia River increases, which marks the region.

There are some areas where we can bathe if the temperatures accompany, although in summer the place is more crowded and perhaps the waterfall does not carry as much water as on other occasions.

If we do not want to spend heat (although the freshness of the mountain is appreciated while in other latitudes it does squeeze), we can do this route at sunset. During the summer months the Salto de la Novia is lit at night and there have been concert cycles during several seasons.

But when the waterfall flows in all its splendor it is in the rainy season, in autumn or spring, seasons not conducive to bathing but in return the heat does not squeeze and the landscape is tinted with renewed colors. It is the right time to have a picnic and have lunch, lunch or snack in one of the appropriate areas with tables and benches for that purpose.

Undoubtedly the area is temperate for most of the year, so even for these upcoming Christmas holidays, if it is a sunny day, it is a very appetizing excursion.

In the surroundings there are others interesting activities with children, you can see the Tío Juan Waterfall, with a viewpoint from which to contemplate the Brazal waterfall with a different perspective; springs, fountains, different paths ...

We can also approach the Arab Tower or Altomira Tower (next to a campsite), make a route through the different sources or contemplate sculptures in a museum ...

Definitely, the excursion to the Salto de la Novia in Navajas will be unforgettable for the whole family. Here, in the valley of the Palancia River, between the natural parks of the Sierra Calderona and that of Espadán, nature and its stories fascinate children.
