Essential things during the baby's first weeks

When we are new mothers it is normal to feel nervous about many issues and one of them is choose the things that we will need during the first weeks of our baby's life. There are some who think that it is better that things are over and not missing, and others that on the contrary, prefer to have only the essentials to not accumulate things unnecessarily ... that's why we share this list with the objects that according to our opinion, you will need and use continuously during those first months.

For home

  • Cradle or cradle: Deciding if you are going to leave the baby in a crib directly or if you are going to get a mini-cradle for comfort reasons is a very personal matter, although you can opt for the middleman or intermediate options.
  • Mattress: Making a good choice is decisive for making a safe crib. The most important thing is that the mattress fits perfectly in the crib.
  • Linens: As indispensable we only have the bottom sheet and a sleeping bag. Our partner Armando explained to us why it is not safe to use soft bedding such as comforters or cushions.
  • Lullabies: They are essential to shelter the baby when we have it in our arms.

Bath and cleaning

  • Bathtub: Nowadays choosing it is almost as complicated as choosing the cradle, but there are very good options that fit both the space we have and our needs.
  • Diapers: It is necessary to have at least a couple of packages, since on average a newborn spends about 10 diapers a day. Of course, you can always contemplate the possibility of using cloth diapers.
  • Towels: Try to choose them to be cotton because of their softness and because they do not leave the baby's skin moist. The one in the photo above is from this beautiful bathroom collection that we talked about recently.
  • Special baby gel: In this case it is advisable to choose one that does not contain soap so that it does not dry out or irritate the baby's skin.
  • Diaper change cream: We must choose an ointment that prevents diaper chafing and that is based on zinc oxide in its formula.
  • Physiological serum and gauze: Very useful for cleaning the baby's eyes and nose.

Clothes

  • Bodies: For the first weeks I prefer those that are kimono type (those that have buttons on the side), because they are very comfortable to remove and put on, although you always have to be careful in the way we do it.
  • Pajamas: The most common are the pieces that also cover the feet because babies will be more warm and comfortable.
  • Cap and mittens: They are two clothes that are necessary even if the baby is born in summer, since they still do not regulate their temperature well and the head is their main area of heat loss.
  • T-shirts and pants: Although we want to see our babies very modern, think first of their comfort. Choose fabrics according to the time of the year and clothes that are comfortable when moving and sleeping.
  • Sweatshirts and sweaters: I also recommend choosing fabrics according to the season and carrying a jersey (not too fat), in the bag during the summer because in some places the air conditioning becomes an enemy of the baby's health.
  • Socks:: Essential to maintain the baby's body temperature, even at some times during the summer.
  • Bibs: You will probably use more than you can imagine, and in addition to what they may stain at mealtime, babies constantly regurgitate.
  • Muslin: Very practical because you use them when changing diapers, to act as a bib if you do not have it at hand, to cover them in summer, to put them on your shoulder to get the air out after eating.

Feeding

  • Baby bottles and formula milk: The first option is always breastfeeding, but if for whatever reason you are not going to breastfeed, you will need bottles and formula milk. Keep in mind that not all milks are the same, so it is good to know what the differences between them can be to consult with your pediatrician the doubts that may arise before choosing one.

Walk

  • Car: Choosing one is one of the most complicated tasks because of the variety of brands and models we can find, but it is important to consider many vital aspects before opting for one. The space we have at home and in the trunk of the car, our height and the place where we live are just some of them.
  • Car seat: It is one of the products in which we definitely shouldn't skimp, since differences in price are usually quite noticeable in quality.
  • Walking Blanket: Depending on the weather you should choose one more or less warm, but keep in mind that even in summer it is necessary due to the air conditioning of some places.
  • Panera bag: Indispensable to carry the bottle, diapers, wipes and changing table for the baby
  • Folding changer: It is usually smaller than home changing tables so that they do not take up much space inside the bag, but it is the perfect size to adapt to changing rooms in public bathrooms.

Are you missing something? Or, on the contrary, would you discard any other from the list?
