Pregnant or just fat? The height of a Dutch contest that has sparked the controversy

It is one of the most common situations at the beginning of pregnancy, when your environment sees you more plump but does not dare to ask (or maybe it does so without regard). It also happens, on the contrary, when you take a few extra pounds and assume that you are pregnant. This situation has been brought to the level of media exhibition in An unusual contest included in a Dutch program: Pregnant or just fat?

In the section, a group of men have to guess if the woman posing on a turntable in front of them is pregnant or "only fat." Of course, it has not taken long to rain criticism of the program, which is entitled "Neem Je Zwemspullen Mee" (something like "bring your swimsuit") and in which other competitions are presented, say, uncomfortable.

For example, another section of the program consists of Guess if a woman's breasts are real or fake or if an Asian man is Chinese or Japanese. In short, between the implausible, the outrageous, the absurd, the denigrating and the sexist. We leave you this video that shows two sections of the contest, the one to guess if the woman is pregnant and the one of the real or operated breasts.

The program has issued a statement in response to criticism, in which he clarified that the intention of the competitions is simply to laugh at prejudices. Of course, if they are able to issue them without blushing, they will hardly care about these controversies (or maybe it's what they wanted and, in the end, they benefit).

In "pregnant or fat" we show how someone can be wrong when judging by appearance. With this satirical installation, we try to laugh at this type of prejudice.

Notwithstanding the explanations, a petition has been created that includes more than 3,500 signatures in order to suppress the program of the Dutch television grill, claiming that the woman is converted into "a piece of meat".

Anyway, it is an entertainment program, and women lend themselves to appear, yes, it can be even fun for a pregnant woman to play with ambiguity, in some context I could understand it.

But where is the limit? Is it equally lawful to have fun with a woman's overweight? And what is the interest of observing her breasts to discern whether they are "real" or operated? Isn't the woman being reified? What is achieved by giving that vision of the female body? Audience, maybe, but I don't see anything more positive about it.
