Older children in each class are more successful in their academic and adult stages, according to a recent study

A recent study carried out by the National Office of Economic Research of Massachusetts (United States), has determined that the overall success of students throughout their childhood and adolescence is very conditioned by your month of birth.

This statistical study is added to other similar ones that we have published in previous occasions, where the fact of being born at a certain time or month of the year is related to the school and adult stage results.

The oldest in the class, the most successful

This new investigation has been carried out by the National Office of Economic Research after studying a large group of students from Florida (United States). Statistical results have related the month of birth of these students with their short, medium and even long term academic success.

Students from most states in the United States must have completed five years before September 1 to begin school. This means that children born in the month of September are the oldest in its class.

As this study has determined, these students show substantial differences with respect to their classmates, in terms of cognitive development, especially in the school stage between 6 and 15 years.

Based on statistics, September students get better scores on primary and secondary exams that the rest of the students, besides showing a lower incarceration rate for juvenile crimes during his teenage years

But this confluence of factors goes far beyond the academic stage, since it has been observed that these children become adults with better results in life and better productivity in their jobs.

The data from this American study also seem to coincide with the results published by the Canadian junior hockey league, in which the oldest players of each team - those born between the months of January and March - are also the best.

Yes we extrapolate this data to our country, we would be talking about that the greatest success would be obtained by students born in the month of January, because in the Spanish education system they are the oldest in the class, being able to take between 11 and 12 months of difference with their smaller classmates born in December.

Really this study has not discovered anything that we did not know by pure logic, and by the numerous studies and research that have been published in this regard over the years.

And when we talk about such early ages, A few months apart between one child and another, you can tell a lot, both in psychomotor skills and in language, sphincter control, questions of apredinzaje or in the acquisition of other skills.

However, experience has shown me that no matter how much initial difference there may be between two children of the same course born in January and December, over the years these nuances become less and less noticeable until they disappear.

Therefore, the fact that these differences mark a success that will last beyond the children's academic stage, to me personally does not quite convince me, although there is no doubt that this type of studies often show us really interesting information.
