Small gestures that are worth a lot: a doctor comforts a baby in his arms while his mother was tested

A good doctor is not only the one who cures, but also the one who is able to empathize with his patients. A beautiful gesture that we cannot ignore is the one that this doctor in charge of the emergency service of Waikato Hospital in New Zealand has had.

The mother was admitted to the emergency room and was transferred to another part of the hospital for tests, while her baby did not stop crying. After several attempts by nurses and doctors, Dr. Muir Wallace went the only person able to calm the baby in her arms. So he continued working for an hour while the baby slept on his shoulder.

The hospital shared the unusual image on its Facebook page accompanied by the legend: "Sometimes all you need is a hug".

From the message that accompanies the photo I rescue a phrase that reminds us of the importance of appreciating gestures of other people that sometimes seem inconsequential and are very valuable:

"Just an example of the small benefits that happen every day that often go unnoticed"

The image has received thousands of positive reactions and has received comments from people who were treated by the doctor highlighting their professionalism. Cherie Smillie wrote: "This Dr. is amazing. He took care of my son last night since he had a burned face and needed an aesthetic treatment."

I imagine the mother's concern for her baby while she was being tested, but fortunately her little one was in the best hands. More doctors like Dr. Wallace are needed.
