Spain, number one in Europe in childhood obesity

The Spanish Ministry of Health and Consumption has prepared a pilot program in order to promote healthy eating and adequate physical exercise in 12,000 schoolchildren between the ages of 6 and 10 in 64 Spanish schools.

We already know that it is a really serious problem, according to the Ministry of Health, Spain is at the head of European countries in terms of childhood obesity, statistics indicate that half of the students in each class are overweight or obese. For this reason, a pilot program is used that has been prepared by the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Education and Science and the Spanish Agency for Food Safety.

It will be developed in communities that have higher levels of obesity or overweight children, among which are Andalusia, Extremadura or Canary Islands, among others. If the program shows positive results, it will be extended to the rest of the Spanish territory. When the school year begins, anthropometric controls will be carried out that will determine the weight, waistline, body mass index and height. From here, a personalized follow-up will be carried out for children who are detected as being obese or overweight and at the end of the school period the anthropometric control will be carried out again to know the overall result of the children's evolution.

Feeding and physical exercise are two necessary conditions to reduce the high rate of overweight and obesity in children in Spain, a condition that also allows the previous two to develop is the role of parents. Its influence is essential to improve the situation of children, through education, eating habits, etc.

Remember that these problems lead to health problems when the child becomes an adult, it is in our hands to end childhood overweight and obesity.
