Only 27% of Andalusian mothers breastfeed their babies

Breastfeeding is a really serious issue, it is necessary to influence it and raise awareness in future mothers of the benefits it brings to the child. The World Health Organization recommends that at least babies receive a minimum of 6 months of breastfeeding.

This recommendation is followed only by 27% of the mothers of Andalusia, although it should also be noted that it has improved a little in this aspect, since in the 80s this recommendation was followed only by 17% of the mothers

On numerous occasions we have reiterated in Babies and more the importance and benefits of breastfeeding for the baby, but there are aspects that we have not mentioned. There are several factors that do not cause that percentage to increase. An example would be maternity leave, this only lasts four months in Spain and represents a setback for many mothers, the leave after childbirth should at least last what the WHO recommends, 6 months, in this way an inconvenience would be eliminated for promote breastfeeding

The awareness of future mothers is important, but so is the support of the father, the family or the workplace, what are the recommendations if they cannot be applied? Or in any case, if they are carried out, they can lead to various setbacks in other aspects of everyday life.

We are left with the phrase of the news published in the digital newspaper 20 Minutes, “They do not feel supported by the health system and, in addition, they fear labor repercussions for being on maternity leave”, a great truth.
