Cortisol resulting from stress affects the baby's brain development during pregnancy

During pregnancy, tranquility is essential, situations that cause stress can generate a serious problem in the future baby. This is indicated by a study prepared by English researchers, the data reflect a possible relationship between the stress suffered by the mother and a poor brain development of the child.

For the study, data were taken of cortisol levels that presented 267 future moms when they were in week 17 of pregnancy, the results showed that a higher level of cortisol in the mother as a result of stress, caused more of this hormone in the amniotic fluid. Stressful situations cause an increase in this substance in the body, when this increase is constant, its results are suffering from disorders such as depression, fatigue, depressing mood, etc. Everything must present its fair measure, in a timely situation of stress the hormone in question helps us cope with the situation, but an excess of it produces a totally negative result.

As we said at the beginning, it is a possibility, since more studies are needed to know how the hormone affects the fetus, but specialists indicate that the relationship between the hormone and the poor brain development is surely real . A study where future mothers presented a high degree of stress showed that children born were up to 10 points below the average IQ, in addition to problems associated with anxiety or attention deficit.

The recommendation is obvious, avoid stressful situations, maintain healthy lifestyle habits and, above all, be happy for the new life that is to come. The study data have been published in the scientific journal Clinical Endocrinology.
