Introduction of solid foods in the baby, new study

To delay the introduction of solid foods in the baby it does not allow to reduce the risks of suffering from some type of allergy in the future, as indicated by a study carried out by experts belonging to the National Center for Environmental and Health Research in Neuherberg (Germany). This is a study that questions the current recommendations provided by the WHO and other entities in which it is recommended not to provide solid food to babies during the first six months of life with the intention of reducing the risks that they may suffer some kind of allergy

The researchers conducted a study in which they took the historical data of 2,073 children up to 6 years of age. After an exhaustive check, it was determined that there was no difference between the children who started eating solid foods before six months of age, the rates of food allergies and asthma rates were not reduced. The only difference that the scientists found was related to the risk of suffering from a skin eczema, it was found that babies who were introduced to solid foods in the diet earlier than recommended by the WHO, presented greater risks of suffering from this disease . According to the researchers, the recommendations made by WHO and other institutions do not have the necessary scientific support, moreover, they indicate that there is a lack of scientific studies in this area.

Anyway, we believe that it is better to follow the advice of the WHO, in addition, despite the data shown by the study of German researchers, they recommend following these same tips and point out that parents should not expect great benefits for it . This study does not offer any benefit, moreover, one could almost say that it harms other values, such as breastfeeding, a diet that specialists recommend at least during the first six months.

On the other hand, the benefits of delaying the incorporation of solids are several, in addition to expanding breastfeeding, the baby's digestive system is given time to develop better and the possibility of suffering a skin eczema is reduced.
