Report on childbirth in Spain in the program "This morning"

In the television program "This morning" they have broadcast this interesting report on childbirth in Spain of only 7 'but that reflects quite well the different visions and positions before himself.

First an Andalusian woman appears who gives birth at home naturally accompanied by a midwife and explains why she has chosen this option that she describes as positive and unique experience. They mention that 50 women opt for home birth in Andalusia although the record is held by the Catalans.

And then three other women explain their experiences with hospital deliveries. Some criticize the little role they had and others instead are very satisfied and grateful for the whole process of interventions (artificial oxytocin, epidural, episiotomy, etc.) because they consider that they help the delivery to develop faster and compare it with going by AVE (high speed train) or normal train.

The interesting thing about the report is that it is also reflected the professional debate and two doctors justify their positions in this regard.

Finally they remind us of the cold figures and away from the WHO recommendations: 1 of 4 deliveries with caesarean sections, episiotomy abuse and monopoly of the epidudiral as the only method of pain avoidance / reduction.

I consider that, in the short time of the report and without being able to deepen, they have given a global vision of the subject when a few years ago this debate was very marginal, misunderstood and even ridiculed.

But they always try to show us two extremes: or give birth at home or super medicalized, when there really is a third way: births that are 100% respectful and that meet all WHO requirements in delivery centers adjacent to or within hospitals, but far from the hospital environment (illness, noise, light, lack of privacy) that makes the physiological process of childbirth difficult, and with facilities for all types of births (hot tubs, mobility of mothers, etc.)

I have seen pictures of delivery rooms of English hospitals with a friendly and familiar atmosphere, and opposed to the cold operating rooms that we have here.

The truth is that it doesn't matter so much the where but the how and always with maximum safety for the baby and the mother.

Personally, I believe that birth is a much more important fact than just looking for a short hour.
