Mother of two babies after cancer

Cancer is a disease that due to its aggressive treatment can compromise the possibility of being a mother of the woman who suffers causing premature menopause. A new technique has brought hope to many women, as it has done with a 27-year-old Danish woman who has achieved be the mother of two babies after cancer.

The technique is the reimplantation or transplantation of ovarian tissue, which consists of extracting ovarian tissue from the patient before undergoing chemotherapy, freezing it and once the disease has been overcome, reimplanting it and stimulating ovulation so that it can re-produce eggs by she herself.

In the case of the Danish Stinne Holm Bergholdt it is the first time that the treatment has resulted in a double game, making possible the pregnancy and the birth of two babies separately.

We have already met a similar case that resulted in the birth of twins, however it is the first time that two brothers are born in different births after their mother's cancer thanks to this technique. The first time in 2007 through mild ovarian stimulation and the second one a year later naturally.

Counting these two births, there are a total of nine babies born worldwide as a result of transplantation of frozen ovarian tissue and then thawed and reimplanted.

It is believed that a key factor for the success of the intervention could be the age of the woman, since as she ages she decreases the amount of eggs.

In any case, it is good news that will bring hope to many women who suffer from cancer and do not want to see their dream of being mothers truncated.
