Letter to Penelope Cruz

Dear Penelope:

My name is Armando and I am part of the team of editors of Babies and more. A few days ago I talked about you in an entry, when news was released in some media that said you were not going to breastfeed your son for aesthetic reasons. To be more specific, it was said in this news that it was so that your breasts did not suffer too obvious changes and that you could recover the weight before pregnancy.

Tea I apologize publicly if that news was not true, since I am aware that you have tried to take your recent maternity (and paternity) in the most intimate way possible and it is possible that the information poured about your choices could be false.

Luckily, for me, I treated the subject in a respectful way and instead of holding the entrance to the pink press mode with a "Penelope Cruz is not going to breastfeed your baby" or in the way of the yellowish pink press With an "An irresponsible Penelope Cruz will not breastfeed her baby" I decided to title it "Do not breastfeed for aesthetic reasons", to focus, not on your choice, but on the motives, on the arguments.

Despite this, several mothers, both on our blog and through Facebook, responded somewhat annoying to this post for two reasons: that the news was probably false and that as a woman and mother you have every right to choose how to feed your child. The expansion effect was such that I have even had to defend my entry in written comments in other posts, being accused of being disrespectful to you and, as I say, I don't think that was the case and that's why I started talking about the two reasons mentioned .

With regard to the possible falsehood of the news, you see that we are a baby blog and, although at first glance everything looks very rosy, we have nothing to do with the press of the heart. For this reason it is of little interest that the news is false or true (although obviously I would prefer it to be true, to give truth to the information), because it matters little whether or not you give your baby a breast.

So, whether the news is true or not, what is clear is that the argumentation expressed in the news does not have any kind of sustenance. I refer you to the other entry for you to read, if you want, that breastfeeding does not make the shape of the breast change more than it changes for women who do not breastfeed and that, if the intention is to regain weight, breastfeeding works long term (now, that if what you want to do is a meteoric diet and you prefer not to compromise your baby's health, I don't say anything there anymore).

What I am trying to say in this letter is basically that I personally I care very little how you feed your child. If the head of the press had been "Penelope will not breastfeed," I would never have written that entry or this letter. However, the headline was added the "not to lose shape" tag and here, as a pediatric nurse and lactation consultant I was almost forced to deny the arguments contained in that news.

I did so, showing truthful information about the weight and breasts of women who breastfeed so that those who are about to have a child are informed (and not misinformed by news like the one commented) and can make a decision based on realities and Not in myths.

Summarizing, what you do with your breasts, like what any mother does with her own, I do not careHowever, if it is decided to argue the decision (which is not necessary), it should be with something that is not unreal, or the people we fight so that mothers who want to breastfeed (and those who do not, if they want to know) have all The possible information will have to come out in defense of the truth, as has been the case.

Greetings,

Armando
