Mind maps for young children

Recently my son dared to give a small lecture on the use of mind maps for children, because we usually use them to structure the ideas in the subjects that it studies. Its usefulness is enormous and we can use them with children from three years old.

Use the mind maps to help childrenEven if they still cannot read, it is a very useful instrument and it seems that they allow children to visually organize knowledge by structuring the relationships between different ideas.

In the one that illustrates this article the different kinds of animals are explained, what they eat, how they are born, where they live, everything in a very visual way and with drawings that a small child would understand, although it is better to make them ourselves.

Starting to use mind maps with younger children lays the foundation so that, in the future, they know how to take notes or make these kinds of radial schemes when they have to study.

When done in colors and with images they are very simple for them, allowing them to consult the subject again as many times as they wish, being also an instrument that reinforces natural learning.

And this is because we do not learn in a line manner, not only with words, but we start up both cerebral hemispheres to provide new knowledge of content, images and free references that give them meaning.

The mind maps allow you to understand materials of any subject: Spanish, mathematics, biology, art or civics, since during the diagramming process the information is customized according to personal perception and it acquires meaning for each individual.

When making a mind map we follow the normal functioning of our brain. A central idea promotes ideas that are born radially from it, in a free and very creative way, such as when one theme takes us to another and reinforces it, making it unforgettable and consistent. In addition, the keywords are usually related to experiences and images that, in the mind map, we will capture with personalized drawings.

In mind maps We will make a diagram with the central idea and, with keywords if the child is already able to read, or with images- The process consists in drawing a diagram through keywords, colors, images, dimension, sequence, logic and imagination.

This computer of ideas, designed with contributions of functions from both sides of our brain, effectively detects the important points of a subject and indicates in a simple way its different relationships.

The left hemisphere specializes in language, criticism, order, sequence, linearity and logic. The right hemisphere provides imagination, visualization, totality, colors and drawings. When performing the mind map both hemispheres are put into operation and learning is much more natural and effective.

begin to use mind maps from early childhood It is a very interesting educational resource, which helps to structure ideas, learn comprehensively and make meaningful and very visual schemes. If you dare, tell us.
