A new European directive has just been known that has raised quite controversy because it is related to very popular, apparently harmless toys that children have been using for generations. According to the European Commission Children will not be able to inflate balloons or blow out a dreamcatcher without adult supervision.
The prohibition of inflating balloons is for children under 8 years old, while the ban on blowing blows is for children under 14 years of age due to the risk of suffocation or that any part of the toys can be swallowed.
Whistles and magnetic fishing games will also be banned because they contain small parts and chemicals that may carry too many risks for children.
Nor are teddy bears saved, which will have to be washable, because they accumulate too much dirt and can spread diseases, or noisy toys, especially rattles and musical instruments, because of the high level of noise they can emit.
From now on, toy companies must indicate the restrictions on the packaging of these toys, although the merchants, for their part, have serious doubts about the effectiveness when implementing the regulations.
In any case, it will be within two years when each EU country will have to translate this rule into its legislation. We will see if it stays only in theory or is put into practice.
