Donate 1 day, UNICEF campaign against child malnutrition

Donate 1 day is UNICEF's new initiative against child malnutrition which aims to treat thousands of children with malnutrition. This is how this campaign is presented that is already having a good impact:

The 1000 days that pass from the mother's pregnancy to the two years of the child's life are crucial. With the necessary food and proper care at this stage, millions of children will have more opportunities to survive.

Reference is made to 1000 days because they are crucial to prevent and treat child malnutrition. During that period is when the basic development of the child occurs. Lack of adequate food and attention during this stage it produces irreversible physical and cognitive damage that will affect the child's health and intellectual development during the rest of his life.

The actions can be grouped into four categories: prevention, changes in the socio-cultural environment, treatment of acute malnutrition and other treatments and actions. UNICEF's experience in its work with other United Nations agencies, NGOs and governments involved demonstrates that with these interventions it is possible to end child malnutrition.

From UNICEF they remind us especially that feed the baby with breast milk during the first six months of life It is the best vaccine against infant mortality due to the minerals, vitamins and proteins it provides.

In addition to allowing the baby to face possible diseases, this practice favors the emotional bond between mother and child. In developing countries, one of the main barriers faced by health workers is culture and tradition, which often prevent adequate feeding of the baby.

To participate in the initiative, chains must be created (or participate in existing ones) authorizing the application with our Twitter or Facebook account. The collaboration is done by sending an SMS (1'20 euros) to 28028 with the word CHAIN followed by the name of your chain and your donation will be added to the chain.

If you want help UNICEF fight child malnutritionWith just one mobile message, a child with acute malnutrition can receive treatment for one day, hence the name "Donate 1 day". And 42 euros is what is needed to perform a complete treatment that lasts between 28 and 42 days.
