Laura Calvo and María Vilas are the regional winners of the ESA YouTube Space Lab contest

A few weeks ago we were commenting on Peques and More than four Spaniards were among the regional finalists of the ESA YouTube Space Lab contest. Finally Laura Calvo and María Vilas have won with their experiment what happens when they mix water, soap and oil in microgravity conditions. The idea is to record it with a high resolution camera and check if some of the effects that could be due to Earth's gravity disappear.

Now you can say that they have won and are waiting to succeed in the last phase worldwide. In that case the experiment would take place on the International Space Station and will be broadcast across the planet through YouTube.

Laura and Maria's experiment would allow answer the question of whether it is possible to make smaller and more efficient electrical appliances. For this they want to show if microgravity affects the interaction of different liquids when mixed with compounds that decrease their surface tension.

The two girls, who belong to the Dos Dices de La Coruña public school, won in the 14-16 year old youth category. We had already anticipated it in the previous article we had written, the young women explain themselves very well, speak very naturally, and in English, and their experiment seems very interesting. We congratulate the girls and their teachers / tutors that I imagine will be very proud of the scientific enthusiasm of their students.

This kind of news should be more frequent in Spain, I think. It is one of the ways to get science to advance, to develop and promote culture and to motivate students in their classes. Every day we should have news of this kind and not only of science.

We continue, then, congratulating the winners and wish them good luck to achieve their dream. From Peques and Más we invite you to come and tell us all the details of your project. It would be a pleasure to do so.
