Enrique Dans talks about education and technological tools to use in the classroom

Enrique Dans was last February 8, 2012 in the Madrid Congress Excellent and had time to grant an interview to the Executive Excellence publication, a magazine that is distributed jointly with the economic newspaper Cinco Días, in which he talked about how “Innovation questions the stability of everything”. Although in the interview he talks about concepts perhaps for adults, although we have also commented on them here, such as personal branding and social web presence, he also has time to talk about education, innovation and entrepreneurship.

And about him student learning process he tells us that it is necessary to carry out a disruptive innovation in the classrooms, that is, that the maximum match that technology platforms offer to education. For example, it mentions that teachers begin to give their notes in a blog, or that they use it as a support to expand experiences at home, as a compilation of topics and that allows them to collect comments, learn about the participation of students in the realization of the works including comments, videos, links, etc. and thus expand the evaluation criteria of the students and evaluate the progress of their learning.

And, Enrique tells us, that all part simply of the motivation of the teacher and his technological capacity in very simple subjects, for which it is very easy to train.

However, he continues to say, instead of motivating the teacher, to introduce him to the concepts shown in the image that illustrates the article, most institutions are choosing to install a platform, something that only allows students to talk through it, when the goal is to get them to learn with open tools (that are able to make a blog, upload a video to YouTube, etc.) and integrate that into the system.

And keep talking about that if the students used open tools, and they are available to everyone, the teacher would not have to explain anything to them, because they themselves would know how to do it. The main challenge is to get students to integrate the tools that already exist in the education system and that implies that education must be opened, motivated by the teacher and equipped with basic technological capabilities, although necessary.

In my opinion the kids have to have facilities to develop their creativity and that includes using tools that enhance that way of acting. If teachers also facilitate the use of these tools and integrate them into the educational process, I believe that a good result can be obtained for all. The main pitfalls of this model they are teacher training and access to the tools mentioned here in homes.

That is why I think it is essential that Spain is committed to the use of technology by providing infrastructure to households and that teachers respond to this need for training. I take this opportunity to remember this video by Charles Leadbeater that illustrates how you are educating in emerging countries with this type of tools and an extraordinary commitment of the educational community.
