Lessons of paternity (and life) in the songs of Bruce Springsteen

I recognize that my level of English does not lead me to delight in the details of the songs, although some phrases caught on the fly make us reflect, inspire and enjoy. The boss, Bruce Springsteen, is one of those geniuses who sings with background, and whose songs often include messages from self improvement and perseverance.

If we look more closely at the lyrics we can find those important messages, life lessons (if we want to take them like that), and that's why I liked to find a selection of phrases from Bruce Springsteen's songs that we can relate to fatherhood.

Here you have a selection of these quotes to reflect, of a man who is also a father and who is marked by his experience also has much to say and convey. As a good essayist who reaches many readers, the Chief reaches millions of people with his message transformed into art. And everyone who interprets it as they want ...

  • Backstreets. “Remember all the movies, Terry, we'd go see, trying to learn how to walk like the heroes we thought we had to be” - “Remember all the movies, Terry, that we would like to see, trying to learn to walk like the heroes we thought we had to be. ”We can be heroes and our children are, we just have to keep dreaming and aspiring to be, without letting ourselves be influenced by what others want us to be (and they will learn that neither do we we can guide them in that). Maybe now is a good time to stop to think about what kind of parents we wanted to be and if we are doing it, or what we can do to get closer to that "ideal".
  • New York City Serenade. “So walk tall, or baby don't walk at all” - “So walk upright, or, honey, you won't walk at all”: choose what you choose to do in life, better do it with pride and confidence so that others Respond in a positive way. And it applies to both us and the little ones.
  • Long time coming. "But if I had one wish kids ... that your mistakes would be your own" - "But if I had a wish, guys, it would be that your mistakes belonged to you." Do you think it is impossible at this time to leave your children commenting on their own mistakes to learn?
  • Land of Hope and Dreams. "Leave behind your sorrows, let this day be the last, tomorrow there'll be sunshine and all this darkness past" - "Leave your sorrows behind, let this day be the last, tomorrow there will be sun and all this darkness will pass." A song to optimism, to keep looking forward, to build new principles, because it is never too late to learn, rectify, forgive ...
  • Land of Hope and Dreams. "I will provide for you and I'll stand by your side." - "I'll take care of you and I'll be by your side." In the same song we find this undoubted lesson, which could be of any love song, but to which we want to give this meaning: together with our children without conditions.
  • Darkness on the Edge of Town. “Tonight I'll be on that hill 'cause I can't stop… I'll be on that hill with everything I've got” - “Tonight I'm going to be on that hill because I can't stop… I'll be in that hill with everything I have. ” A call to the inflexible and unstoppable determination in our most important goals, together with the people of our life.
  • No surrender. "Well, we made a promise we swore we'd always remember ... Don't retreat, baby, don't surrender" - "Well, we made a promise that we swear we would always remember ... No withdrawal, honey, no surrender." And it is that despite the obstacles we encounter in life, as parents, and those who find our children, we do not have to give up, we must keep our principles.

As you can see most are life lessons in Springsteen music, applicable to anyone, not only to those of us who are parents or children, and who would like them to learn as well. Therefore, perhaps, it's time to listen to the Boss again with our children... and think about our aspirations
