Information and awareness campaign on the Kristeller maneuver

The El Parto is Our Association is preparing a information and awareness campaign on the Kristeller maneuver and we echo it to invite you, if it took place during your delivery, to participate.

The Kristeller consists of making a strong pressure during the expulsive in the mother's abdomen (uterine fundus) to get the baby out or get to crown faster. It is done to shorten the delivery and facilitate the removal of the baby.

The person who performs it presses the mother's abdomen with the arm or both arms, reaching up on it in some case to increase the force of the thrust.

Kristeller's maneuver It is still performed in many births despite being discouraged by the undeniable risks it presents: placental abruption, uterine rupture, tears in the mother's perineum, fracture of the baby's collarbone and brachial plexus injuries. There is also no evidence that it really has significant beneficial effects on childbirth, so it is discouraged.

The El Parto Association is Our aim, with its information and awareness campaign on the Kristeller maneuver publicize this obstetric maneuver, make public what women think and feel about it, and for this they will collect testimonies and then collect them in a study. You can get more information on their page.

We congratulate once again the Association El Parto es Nuestro for their tireless work to improve childbirth care in Spain, provide proven information and give women a voice, and we encourage you to participate in this Kristeller maneuver campaign.
