In recent times we are more aware of how important it is to protect yourself from the sun. When we were children, sunscreens were not so common, in fact I remember the tanning tubes that circulated around the house in summer. But, Today, do we really protect children from the sun?
In this video we discover many data referring to the sun protection habits of Spanish children and how parents perceive the risks. Summer vacations are the moment that we consider as the highest incidence of the sun in children, but the day to day school, the walks, the park, outdoor sports ... we are not so worried.
It is a video of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), based on data from the Study conducted by the Cancer Observatory in order to analyze the sun exposure habits of the Spanish population. It's about the study "Sun protection behaviors and risk perception of skin cancer in the Spanish population", which we can read here.
Some of these conclusions we advance you a few days ago by recommending you to protect children from the sun not only on the beach and on excursions, because there are many other everyday situations in which we lower our guard but we must put protection on them.
We also see that when children reach the age of 10, parents reduce their attention to these aspects by half, but the skin of these children remains very sensitive.
And another issue is that we have to use a cream with high protection factor, specific for children, and not the same as the older ones, with lower factor.
Protective creams, caps, fine clothes, umbrellas ... are some ways to ensure that the delicate skins of babies and children are not exposed to the sun in an uncontrolled way, with the risks that this entails.
Looking ahead to summer and good weather, this is good video to remind us that we don't always protect children from the sun, and that we should be more aware and constant when applying the most appropriate protective cream for children. The habits we establish with our children in this regard will be those that they follow throughout their lives.
