Telefónica's digital backpack will be implemented throughout Spain in 2014

The Fundación Telefónica presented the report on January 15, 2014 Information Society in Spain 2013 (SIE 2013). The report offers a broad overview of digital trends and information technologies in 2013. The report can be downloaded in various formats (in pdf for example) and has published summaries, such as video and presentation below. Although the big numbers: 25 million connected Spanish with ages between 16 and 74 years and that the 70% of households have an Internet connection, the objective is to know more about digital backpack project.

The concept of digital backpack Telefónica promotes reference to the set of digital educational content and materials that students use in virtual learning environments to develop educational activities both in the classroom and outside it. Until 2013, a pilot phase has been developed with 3,000 students in 45 schools in Castilla La Mancha. The goal is to get that in the 2014 the experience extends throughout Spain.

As the implementation of the digital backpack impacts on all the people involved in the training process of the students: parents, students, publishers, bookstores, educational centers, education counseling, payment methods, etc., from Telefonica they are managing the complexity of this environment by working on the Neutral Node. This neutral point will facilitate aspects such as definition of content catalogs, data management of educational centers and students, the preparation of digital backpacks, the interoperability with virtual learning environments or payment management.

That way, says Telefónica, you can make a neutral management so that technology can organize supply and demand of digital educational content, promoting efficient use and allowing students to access all available content.

The implementation of technologies in homes is progressing at a good pace, although much remains to be done to gain access to quality and unrestricted not only in homes. Also in Europe we are not leading the use of ICT and our millennials, increasingly accustomed to dealing with them, face ways of doing business that requires adaptation and commitment from everyone. We will also be very attentive to development of the digital backpack project throughout the year 2014.
