Request to eliminate the "thinking chair" of the classrooms

An initiative that we want to echo because we believe it deserves the widest possible dissemination is a request to eliminate the "thinking chair" of the classrooms.

The thinking chair, the corner of thinking, or whatever everyone calls it is a method that is still put into practice as punishment in some schools (and also in some houses). The idea is to set aside for a few minutes the child who has misbehaved (there are various theories about the time that should be) to reflect on what he has done. But this is not a way of educating, it is antipedagogical and harms the child.

The petition has been promoted by our partner Mireia Long and by Azucena Caballero of the Pedagogía Blanca educational project and since it became known it has already obtained more than 500 signatures in less than 24 hours. A few more are still needed, so you can support it if you're interested.

In Babies and more we have already commented on why the thinking chair is a punishment with which nothing is achieved. It does not make the child think or modify his behavior, on the contrary it bores and often humiliates.

Therefore, we join the request to eliminate the "thinking chair" of the classrooms. We hope it is achieved.
