Children want peace, let's help them

Today, January 30 is celebrated on School Day of Nonviolence and Peace to remember the anniversary of the death of Mahatma Gandhi. It is an educational day founded in Spain 50 years ago by the Mallorcan poet and pacifist Llorenç Vidal. It is an important day in nursery schools and colleges, which become instruments of peace and understanding among people of different backgrounds, race, culture and religion.

All kinds of activities are carried out to raise awareness among children: careers, solidarity chains, acts and commemorative songs. All that is necessary, but what really matters in order to build peace is that we educate our children in tolerance, respect, solidarity and non-violence. The children want peacebut we must help them.

All those beautiful words are fundamental values that we must teach at home every day, in the most everyday situations. Peace is something very big that is built with small things. How to teach a child nonviolence if we scream at the first? How to teach him to respect others if we don't respect his needs? How to understand others if we are not able to put ourselves in their place?

Today I went to celebrate Peace Day at my daughters' school and I was excited to hear the song I leave you in the video sing to four-year-old children. So innocent ... I wondered if they really knew what peace is and how important it is. They still don't know, it doesn't matter, they want peace and we have to help them.

The basic message today is: “Universal love, Non-violence and Peace. Universal Love is better than selfishness, Nonviolence is better than violence and Peace is better than war. ” We encourage you to celebrate this day with songs, stories and drawings to color with your children.
