The Samsung Galaxy S5 incorporates a baby crying detector to warn the Gear watch

Technology does not stop advancing to make us, in theory, life easier. The mobiles, which once served only to call and send SMS, are now authentic computers with a camera with hundreds of utilities that, it must be said, do not always serve much.

One of the novelties of the new generation of the Samsung Galaxy S, which is the 5 and will soon be on sale, is its ability to act as warning that there is a baby who is crying. Activating the "Baby Crying Detector" option the mobile will send a signal to the Samsung Galaxy Gear watch so that its owner knows that the baby is crying.

How does the system work

Apparently they have included in the mobile a baby crying detector that, when detecting the frequencies that a baby emits when crying, causes the alarm in the clock. For it the mobile has to be where the baby is and preferably at a distance close to one meter. The mobile must be linked to the smartwatch (smart watch) and in that way one will act as the emitter of the signal and the other as the receiver.

Why do we find it a bit useful function

And therein lies, I believe, the basis of criticism towards this function. The link between the mobile and the watch is made via Bluetooth, which has a range of about 10 meters. That means that depending on what room you are in, with its walls included, the link is lost.

Although well seen, that limit of 10 meters can be useful for the baby, since the adult in charge of the baby will not be separated from him more than that distance. And knowing this, I ask: Is it possible not to hear a baby crying when it is less than 10 meters away?

It only occurs to me that it could happen if we have the baby in another room and we are at a party next door, doing something that makes a lot of noise or if we go with headphones. And I in those cases, or I have tried to make a calmer party, or I have avoided the headphones, or I have had the baby in front at all times, so as not to leave the mobile next to the child and to not stop seeing him, that one never trusts.

In any case, useful or not, it is nothing more than a possibility offered by the mobile and I doubt that people decide for it to include this possibility.
