World Breastfeeding Week 2014 kicks off with the slogan "A triumph for a lifetime"

Today is August 1 and this means that, like every year, World Breastfeeding Week kicks off, promoted by WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Alliance) and celebrated in many countries of the world.

The motto for this year is "A triumph for a lifetime"and intends to increase and maintain the protection, promotion and support of breastfeeding in the countdown towards the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which were established in 1990.

At that time, some governments, together with the United Nations, set eight global objectives to combat poverty and promote healthy and sustainable development by 2015:

  • Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.
  • Achieve universal primary education.
  • Promote gender equality and empower women.
  • Reduce the mortality of children under 5 years.
  • To improve maternal health.
  • Combat HIV / AIDS, malaria and other diseases.
  • Ensure environmental sustainability.
  • Foster a global partnership for development.

About to reach that year, it is tried with the World Breastfeeding Week to involve as many people as possible in order to promote good health, adequate nutrition and thus protect children, since it is estimated that breastfeeding can save the lives of 20% of children under 5.

That is why, and for many more things, we must continue to support breastfeeding, breastfeeding women, their babies and helping to normalize it so that, again, recover the place you should never have left when our mothers and grandmothers were told that the bottle and artificial milk were better than natural milk.
