The first year of life determines the food preferences of children

It is increasingly clear that the baby's first year significantly influences the rest of his life. The mind and body have "memory" and also the child's future eating habits can be determined by his first year of life.

A series of studies published in the journal "Pediatrics" conclude that eating patterns persist in the brain much longer than previously thought. So, you have to include a quality diet when you start complementary feeding.

It will seem obvious to most of us, but we have also had cases that asked us if chocolate was good for a six-month-old child and questions like that.

The 11 studies published in "Pediatrics" they have analyzed the diets of 1,500 children of about six years of age and compared them with their same eating habits during their first year of life.

Thus, children who had followed a diet low in fruits and vegetables during their first year of life, maintained those preferences at six years. We already know the importance of these foods in the diet, so you don't have to give up if the baby has a hard time drinking fruit at the beginning, it is most normal.

Nor do we have to omit from the menu the foods that we do not like, because somehow we are perpetuating that rejection, when the baby is more than likely to accept that food better.

The neophobia or fear of trying new foods often derives from a diet that is poor in variety and flavors, so from the beginning, with much patience, companionship and love, children should be allowed to experiment with foods that are appropriate for their age.

If after six months we see that the baby has a hard time accepting new foods and until the year he only "likes" or has tried a couple of fruits and a certain type of porridge or meat ... do not despair. We still have some time to keep trying, also trying Never eat time to become a problem.

The challenge in many cases is in change the diet of the whole family, after all, children eat what parents prepare and in the end the whole family will eat the same. So, to avoid bad habits and establish a healthier one, it is best that we all do it from the beginning ...

One of the studies, on which we will return, reveals that sugary drinks before the year all they do is promote obesity and make children at age six consume them excessively instead of occasionally, which is how they should be taken if we do not want other risks to increase (caries ...).

In short, babies do not make a "reset" of what their life has been before twelve months. Everything that happens in your life from the beginning is important, and the first year determines children's food preferences and of future adults.
