He reconciles more with female heads

We continue talking about conciliation in Spain. Edenred and the IESE University School of Business have just completed a work and family reconciliation barometer from which interesting data emerges.

Fundamentally, we have to, to the workers' perception, the female heads are the ones that best allow a conciliation. Women leaders with children, especially. In addition, they are the ones that best value women's work, which dismantles the myth of competitiveness among women at work.

On the contrary, in general men are less happy with female heads, although when it comes to seeking a balance between professional and family life, they continue to gain consideration.

It catches my attention from the age of 35 when conciliation is assessed, it is true that at that age there are many more fathers and mothers but, is it that before it is not preferred to make work and personal life compatible in an adequate way?

From all the data of the barometer it is clear that, being the least women who occupy positions of responsibility, in general Spanish workers are not happy with the possibility of conciliation, as we have commented on several occasions.

In summary, these are the fundamental points that the study carried out by Edenred and the Business School of the University of Navarra on the reconciliation between professional and personal life:

  • Until the age of 34, workers find it indifferent to reconcile their boss as male or female.
  • Between the ages of 35 and 49, subordinates are more satisfied with the balance between professional and personal life when their superior is a woman.
  • There is a big difference in the balance between professional and personal life with a boss or a boss from the age of 50, in favor of female heads.
  • Women perceive greater professional recognition if they have a boss.
  • Bosses with children are best valued by their subordinates with children, especially if the boss is a woman (23% of very satisfied employees), but also if he is a man (12% of very satisfied employees).
  • The greatest degree of dissatisfaction of workers about the possibility of reconciling personal and professional life occurs when the boss has no children.
  • Men are less happy with female heads, and the opposite happens among subordinates.

The study, which we can consult in full here, has been carried out on a sample of 1,200 Spanish workers belonging to different sectors of activity and with different degrees of responsibility and ages. 57% of respondents were men and 43% women.

Definitely, Spanish employees prefer to have a woman as boss when it comes to reconciling professional and personal life. Could it be that women are more aware of the benefits that such conciliation entails, because we are experts in "suffering" non-conciliation? If I were boss I would also change many things ...
