Video: a good grip during suction

We already know that breastfeeding can hurt, but it shouldn't hurt. One of the causes of chest pain and / or the appearance of cracks in the nipple can be a bad grip during suction. In this video we see how it should be a good grip while the baby breast, and how it would be done incorrectly.

More than the external position of the baby or mother, it is the placement of the mouth and the insertion of the nipple into the oral cavity. A very practical video of animation in which in the cross-section of the figures of the breast and the baby, with anatomical data to understand the process, we observe how it is properly breastfed.

A good grip It is a total insertion and placement of the nipple near the soft palate, in the back of the oral cavity ("comfortable area", which we can easily find in our mouth with our tongue, touching the palate). In these cases, the suction is more effective and does not cause pain to the mother. The nipple is not seen around the baby's mouth, which occupies much of the breast areola.

Conversely, there would be difficulties if the nipple is halfway up, under the hard palate, near the mouth entrance. The mother's nipple may become partially visible, as the baby's mouth does not cover it completely. Then we would have a shallow grip, whereby the nipple rubs against the hard palate, which can cause discomfort and pain to the mother as time passes and the baby continues to suck in this way.

As we can see, despite the fact that babies are born prepared to suck and are able to do so, if they are left, in their first hours of life, it is common that, for various reasons, they do not do so from the beginning, which later It will cost more, or do it incorrectly (they are given a pacifier or nipple ...).

Therefore, it is important that continuous contact, skin to skin, be allowed between the mother and the newborn, if their health conditions permit, until the first take occurs. It should also be noted, if pain or cracks begin to occur during the first months, if bad posture has begun, to correct it as soon as possible.

In this way we will achieve a good grip on the baby during breast sucking, as this video shows in a very illustrative way.
